The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, enacted on March 27, 2020, expanded protections by requiring private plans to also fully cover out-of-network tests. The CARES Act requires health plans to reimburse out-of-network COVID-19 test claims at up to the cash price that the provider has posted on a public web site. Health insurance coverage for free COVID-19 tests ended on May 11, 2023; however, please verify with your insurance for coverage information.
Virus Geeks, its subsidiaries, or partners will submit a claim to your health insurance plan on your behalf either for a COVID-19 test in the amount of $400 and/ or specimen collection for $80. If your insurance company does not pay for the full amount for the COVID-19 test, you are not responsible for the balance.
Insurance reimbursement can be a slow and confusing process, especially if your healthcare plan is not up to speed on Federal guidelines for covering the cost for a COVID-19 test. Here's what you can expect and how to get help if you have any questions.
Your insurance company may send you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) that may look like a bill. However, it’s a summary of the claim we submitted and the reimbursement status. The EOB may state “Patient’s Responsibility” and a dollar amount. Since we do not ask for co-payments or balance bill patients for COVID testing, you don't owe this amount - your test is free.
In the event your insurance company pays you by check, please forward the payment to Virus Geeks and endorsing the back of the check with your signature and the words “pay to the order of Virus Geeks."
